Click here for a history of tow in surfing in Oregon. Tow-in surfing is when a surfer is pulled behind a wave runner or jet ski and put into position on a wave. The tow surfer then drops the tow rope and surfs the wave. This is generally done on waves which are too large to paddle into. In order to tow surf you need more then just a waverunner. Tow in surfing requires a special rescue sled, tow rope and tow in surfboard with foot straps, at the very least. There are also several other pieces of safety equipment you will need to convert your waverunner into a full on rescue device from bow to stern. Ossies Surf Shop has a 2004 Sea Doo Supercharger 1500cc wave runner that has been specifically geared and tuned up for tow in surfing and rescue detail for surfing lessons. Ossies owner Dan Hasselschwert has been towing into waves for over two years and he has logged over 200 hours of tow surfing experience. This experience is needed to give you expert advice on equipment selecting, training opportunities, or anything else tow-in surfing related. Ossies Seadoo is also available for safety during surfing lessons. This is an excellent safety option for groups of beginning surfers. Let Ossies schedule tow in surfing lessons for you locally or become certified with instructors from Towsurfer.com! Anyone interested in a tow surfing class should be able to surf double over head plus waves confidently. If you cannot already rip with confidence in big waves (20 ft. faces and more) then you are not ready for these tow in classes. If you already have the big wave surfing abilities and would like tow-in surfing lessons, call the shop to schedule a training session or go to www.towsurfer.com for details.
