       Ossies Surf Shop President, Dan Hasselschwert, has been surfing for over ten years and has given hundreds of surfing lessons. Dan is a licensed teacher in Oregon with a masters degree in curriculum and instruction. Dan started giving surf lessons to his middle school students in Waldport in the year 2000.  Today, in addition to local 4H surfing clubs in Newport and Waldport, Dan teaches the only college accredited surfing course in Oregon at Oregon State University. This means that you can count on professional, quality instruction and positive results!  Interested in tow-in surfing lessons?  Dan has been towing Nelscott reef since 2004 and offering different levels of tow-in surfing lessons .Whether your a first time surfer looking to get into the sport or an experienced big wave rider looking to take your skills to the next level, Ossies surf shop will customize a surf lesson to meet your needs.

       Ossies has hand picked the most experienced, knowledgeable and friendly staff of surf instructors on the Oregon coast.  All of Ossies Surf Shop’s lessons are taught by local surfing legends whom hold current CPR and first aid cards.        The legendary Paul Hanson gives the majority of our private surf lessons. Paul Hanson has been involved in counseling and teaching swimming, diving, rowing, surfing, and other sports since the 1970’s.  An avid surfer himself, Paul has been appointed “The Mayor” of Otter Rock by the local surfers for his positive attitude, outgoing personality and community involvement.  Surfing lessons are always fun when “Mayor” Hanson is around!

     Ron Clifford is a life long surfer and his stoke is contagious. The former Huntington Beach Bad Boy has come to Oregon and taken over as head coach of the Waldport 4H Surf Club. Ron has the experience and the personality to help anyone acheive their surfing goals. A true coach and mentor Ron has many surfing students who train with him weekly year round.  If your looking to learn how to surf, a lesson with Ron is exactly what you need.

       Ollie Richardson is a licensed teacher and coach at Newport High School. Ollie has been surfing for 20 years and was born and raised on the Oregon Coast. Ollie has a strong passion and love for the ocean and has a deep respect for Mother Nature's Power & Beauty. He always brings his smile, enthusiasm and experience to all of his surf lessons. Ollie has become one of the tow-in surfing pioneers for Oregon and has high hopes of competing against the world's best tow surfers. He and his tow partner, Ossie’s President Dan Hasselschwert, are also willing to share tow surfing techniques & go over the required equipment for those dedicated to learn more about tow-in surfing. Whether longboarding, shortboarding, riding his SUP board or just having fun at the beach, Ollie will get you up and riding and give you the knowledge to continue surfing the rest of your life!      Paul Bradley is a licensed elementary school teacher in Corvallis and has been surfing the Newport/Otter Rock area for over 30 years.  Growing up in Otter Rock Paul learned when and where the waves are breaking depending on tides, swells and other weather conditions. Paul has been searching for waves long enough that he has this place dialed! In addition to teaching surfing through the Oregon State University, Paul has been involved in coaching for over 20 years.  The experiences he has earned here on the Oregon coast and on his travels to Hawaii, Mexico, Baja, California, Washing ton, Canada and Roratunga just to name a few have made him an authority on Oregon surfing and an excellent teacher.

Surf lessons include instruction & practice in predicting good surf conditions (KNOW BEFORE YOU GO), ocean safety (WHAT TO DO, WHAT NOT TO DO), equipment selection, techniques  for “making it outside” (DUCK DIVE, TURN TURTLE, THE PUSH UP), standing up, turning, and surfing in a crowd (EXPECTATIONS AND SAFETY).

*Surf Lessons take place at Otter Rock or Agate Beach on the beautiful Central Oregon Coast.

*24 hr. notice may be required to secure a surfing instructor so call ahead when ever possible.

*All surfing Students must fill out a rental agreement even if they are not renting equipment
